Did you know that if it wasn't for the Super Bowl, YouTube might never have existed in 2,004? During the halftime show, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson were performing and the famous Nipplegate incident happened.
A few days later, a guy who would later become one of the founders of YouTube was online looking for a video clip of the incident, but he got frustrated because he couldn't find anything. And that's apparently where the idea for YouTube came.
Fast forward two years later to 2,006. Google bought YouTube for then an astronomical price of $1.65 billion.
Now, fast forward 20 years later, as we know, YouTube is massive. It's so massive that that price that people said Google were mere to pay, YouTube generated a revenue every single 10 days.
Some other crazy stats, and I couldn't believe it until I researched it, that YouTube hosts about 3 billion videos every minute. There are about 500 hours of videos uploaded and it's one of the most popular websites in the world.
Now, as I said, this might never have happened if it wasn't for the Super Bowl.

I heard that it's about $8 million for 30 second clip. Now, I still think it's worth it because you got 150 million Americans with huge buying power that are gonna see your brand.
But just looking at this and looking at all the excitement, it reminds me how advertising used to be and in a way what traditional advertising still is. It's almost impossible for a smaller company to advertise and to get their brand known.
If you want to advertise on t v, if you want to advertise in newspapers and big important magazines, the pricing is really just crazy. You can't.
But with the help of Google, for example, and even social media, very quickly you can get your brand found by people that are looking for you. It's really just unbelievable.
Before Google, you just couldn't do it. And also before social media, it was almost impossible...
nly really for the big companies and you need a huge budget. With online advertising, such with Google and social media, luckily, you don't need a big budget to start and you can get success quite quickly.
