If you're trying to get your business found online or recommended by AI, you've probably heard that Reddit is an important part of that. Reddit threads often appear in Google's search results, and Reddit is arguably the most influential website when it comes to influencing AI responses. And then, of course, some people actually use Reddit.
So I'm gonna talk about how you can take advantage of Reddit as a business, and probably more importantly, how to avoid it backfiring on you. Best and most effective way to use Reddit as a business is just to be a genuine, active participant sharing helpful advice. Many people have done this effectively.
In fact, entire businesses have been formed around this strategy. But most business owners don't have 10 hours a week to spend on Reddit. And that's when most businesses start looking for a shortcut.
They figure they can just find some software or a service, go on Reddit, and spam a bunch of great comments about their business. But here's what most people don't understand about Reddit. Reddit actually has some of the most sophisticated bot and spam prevention on the internet.
And I know right now you're thinking, TJ. What are you talking about? Reddit is nothing but bots and spams.
And sure, that's a fair point. The thing is, it is so important and so valuable for your business to be recommended on Reddit that the botters and the spammers have also gotten very sophisticated. My point is, if you just go get some software and start spamming comments about your business on Reddit, you are essentially guaranteed to get banned.
If Reddit's automated systems don't detect you right away, the moderators will eventually. Some subreddits are better than others, but the subreddits that tend to get cited by AI also tend to be the ones that are be

You just have to be smart about how you do it. First of all, you need to understand that AI isn't citing all of Reddit. If you start tracking AI citations using software like Peak dot AI, you'll quickly notice that AI tends to cite the same posts over and over again.
So you don't need to spam comments across all of Reddit, you just need comments on those few posts. And you don't have to be dishonest in the comment either. If you go on to these threads and pretend like you're some rando that just happens to love your brand, people are likely to catch on and it's not a good look.
Instead, just be honest, say, hey, I'm the owner of this business, that's why I'm so qualified to answer this question, and then provide generally helpful advice. Then you still get a mention of your business and what you do, but you're not upsetting anyone. You're just contributing to the community.
But perhaps my favorite piece of Reddit advice came from Joy Hawkins. She runs the local SEO subreddit and has largely built her business on Reddit. Is to identify the subreddit that's most relevant to your industry and message the moderators and ask if you can host an AMA and ask me anything.
This can be a great way to show up in search and get recommended by AI, especially when people are asking specifically about your brand. And that's exactly what I'm doing. July 2nd at 11:30 Pacific Time, 2:30 Eastern Time on R slash SEO for AI.
