If you're advertising on Google Ads or you're thinking about advertising on Google Ads, it's imperative to know what Google Ads advertising can do for you and what Google Advertising can't do for you. Here we go very briefly. Primarily at its core, Google text ads are the most popular one and what most people do.
For example, a person goes on to Google and they type in the word plumber or accounting software or a lawyer. You have the opportunity for your text ad to appear. That type of advertising, text ads is based on keywords.
In other words, it's triggered by a keyword that a person types in. The next type of way of advertising on Google is shopping ads. Shopping ads is also a variation of what a person has typed into Google that your shopping ads can appear.
Now YouTube advertising and a display network is a little bit more complicated and it's not so straightforward. The way that it works is like this. You can select your banners to come up on millions of different websites that Google have arrangements with in their display network or your ads or your YouTube video ads can come up on YouTube.
Now you have a variety of different targeting methods. You can target people by their age. You can target people by their past search history.
You can target people by the type of niche or the different type of websites or YouTube advertising that you're going for. What Google Ads doesn't allow you to do is target people by their occupation, by their race, by their family status, by a whole variety of things that social media advertising usually allows you to do. What sometimes happens is this, that people have a misunderstanding what Google Ads is and also maybe what social media is and maybe that it's all bundled together.
They'll say, I only want my Google Ads to appear to
g what Google Ads is and also maybe what social media is and maybe that it's all bundled together. They'll say, I only want my Google Ads to appear to a business owner who owns a plumbing business that's got 10 staff that's based in Sandton. And we say to them, look, Google Ads doesn't allow you to do that.
Again, if you don't understand what Google Ads is and what Google Ads is not, you're just gonna get frustrated and you're also gonna have false expectations out of the Google system or the agency that is running the Google Ads on your behalf. I think sometimes what happens as well is that agencies that have got very little experience are promising the world to people saying, yes, Google Ads can do that. You have to be honest with yourself.
And as an agency, you should be honest with your clients to tell people, yes, Google can do this for you, but no, Google Ads can't do that for you. My point is like this, don't try do what Google can't do for you. There's so many good things that Google can do, but just know what the expectations and the limits are.
